This guide brings together 5 verses from the Bhagavad Gita on bhakti (devotion and surrender), drawn from chapters 7, 9, 10, 12 and 18.
Bhakti is the Gita's path of loving devotion — the heart's whole turn toward the divine. Across the chapters, Krishna names devotion as the surest, kindest road, open to anyone of any background.
- Verse 1 of 5Bhagavad Gita 9.34 →
man-manā bhava mad-bhakto mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru mām evaiṣhyasi yuktvaivam ātmānaṁ mat-parāyaṇaḥ
Fix your mind on Me; be devoted to Me; sacrifice to Me; bow down to Me; having thus united your whole self to Me, taking Me as the supreme goal, you will come to Me.
- Verse 2 of 5Bhagavad Gita 12.8 →
mayy eva mana ādhatsva mayi buddhiṁ niveśhaya nivasiṣhyasi mayy eva ata ūrdhvaṁ na sanśhayaḥ
Fix your mind on Me, and your intellect in Me. Then you will certainly live in Me alone hereafter.
- Verse 3 of 5Bhagavad Gita 18.66 →
sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja ahaṁ tvā sarva-pāpebhyo mokṣayiṣyāmi mā śucaḥ
Abandoning all duties, take refuge in me alone. I shall liberate you from all sins; do not grieve.
- Verse 4 of 5Bhagavad Gita 7.17 →
teṣhāṁ jñānī nitya-yukta eka-bhaktir viśhiṣhyate priyo hi jñānino ’tyartham ahaṁ sa cha mama priyaḥ
Of them, the wise who are ever steadfast and devoted to the One, excel; for I am exceedingly dear to the wise, and they are dear to Me.
- Verse 5 of 5Bhagavad Gita 10.10 →
teṣhāṁ satata-yuktānāṁ bhajatāṁ prīti-pūrvakam dadāmi buddhi-yogaṁ taṁ yena mām upayānti te
To those who are ever steadfast, worshipping me with love, I give the yoga of discrimination, by which they come to me.

✦ Frequently Asked Questions ✦
What does the Bhagavad Gita say about bhakti?
Krishna teaches that whoever offers him a leaf, a flower, a fruit or water with a loving heart, he accepts (9.26). Bhakti is not about scale of offering — it is about the heart behind it.
Which Gita verses are about devotion?
Gita 9.22 (yoga-kshema for the devoted), 9.26 (whatever offered with love), 9.34 (mind on me), 12.6–8 (offer all to me), 12.13–20 (qualities of the dear devotee), and 18.65 (be devoted to me) form the bhakti core.
How do I begin bhakti yoga?
Choose a simple daily moment — first cup, lighting a lamp, before sleep — and offer it inwardly. Bhakti grows from many small offerings, not one big gesture.
