This guide brings together 5 verses from the Bhagavad Gita on leadership and decision making, drawn from chapters 2, 3, 11 and 18.
The Gita's leader leads by example, not by orders alone — the way one acts shapes the way many follow. Decisions, made with clear intellect and an eye on the wider good, become acts of dharma.
- Verse 1 of 5Bhagavad Gita 2.31 →
swa-dharmam api chāvekṣhya na vikampitum arhasi dharmyāddhi yuddhāch chhreyo ’nyat kṣhatriyasya na vidyate
Further, having regard to your duty, you should not waver, for there is nothing higher for a Kshatriya than a righteous war.
- Verse 2 of 5Bhagavad Gita 11.33 →
tasmāt tvam uttiṣhṭha yaśho labhasva jitvā śhatrūn bhuṅkṣhva rājyaṁ samṛiddham mayaivaite nihatāḥ pūrvam eva nimitta-mātraṁ bhava savya-sāchin
Therefore, stand up and obtain fame. Conquer the enemies and enjoy the unparalleled kingdom. Verily, by Me they have already been slain; be thou a mere instrument, O Arjuna.
- Verse 3 of 5Bhagavad Gita 3.19 →
tasmād asaktaḥ satataṁ kāryaṁ karma samāchara asakto hyācharan karma param āpnoti pūruṣhaḥ
Therefore, without attachment, always perform the actions that should be done; for by performing actions without attachment, one reaches the Supreme.
- Verse 4 of 5Bhagavad Gita 18.58 →
mach-chittaḥ sarva-durgāṇi mat-prasādāt tariṣhyasi atha chet tvam ahankārān na śhroṣhyasi vinaṅkṣhyasi
Fixing your mind on Me, you shall, by My grace, overcome all obstacles; but if you will not hear Me due to egoism, you shall perish.
- Verse 5 of 5Bhagavad Gita 2.47 →
karmaṇy evādhikāras te mā phaleṣu kadācana mā karma-phala-hetur bhūr mā te saṅgo 'stv akarmaṇi
You have a right to action alone, never to its fruits. Let not the fruits of action be your motive, nor let your attachment be to inaction.

What does the Bhagavad Gita say about leadership?
Krishna teaches that the world follows the example of its leaders (3.21), so a leader's first work is on themselves. Leadership done as service to the wider good (lokasangraha) is the Gita's ideal (3.20, 3.25).
Which Gita verses are about decision-making?
Gita 2.41 (resolute intellect makes clean decisions), 3.20 (act for the welfare of the world), 3.21 (the world follows the leader), 18.30 (the sattvic intellect knows what to do and what not), and 2.50 (yoga is skill in action) are central.
How do I become a better leader using the Gita?
Lead the inner life first — discipline, even mind, integrity. Outer leadership is largely the visible part of inner government.
