This guide brings together 4 verses from the Bhagavad Gita on jealousy and comparison, drawn from chapters 2, 5, 12 and 16.
The Gita doesn't moralise about jealousy — it traces it back to comparison rooted in ego, and quietly removes its fuel. The devotee 'free of envy' is named again and again as dear to Krishna.
- Verse 1 of 4Bhagavad Gita 12.13 →
adveṣhṭā sarva-bhūtānāṁ maitraḥ karuṇa eva cha nirmamo nirahankāraḥ sama-duḥkha-sukhaḥ kṣhamī
He who hates no creature, is friendly and compassionate to all, is free from attachment and egoism, is balanced in pleasure and pain, and is forgiving.
- Verse 2 of 4Bhagavad Gita 16.21 →
tri-vidhaṁ narakasyedaṁ dvāraṁ nāśhanam ātmanaḥ kāmaḥ krodhas tathā lobhas tasmād etat trayaṁ tyajet
There are three gates to this hell, destructive of the self: lust, anger, and greed; therefore, one should abandon these three.
- Verse 3 of 4Bhagavad Gita 5.21 →
bāhya-sparśheṣhvasaktātmā vindatyātmani yat sukham sa brahma-yoga-yuktātmā sukham akṣhayam aśhnute
With the self unattached to external contacts, he finds happiness in the Self; with the self engaged in the meditation of Brahman, he attains endless happiness.
- Verse 4 of 4Bhagavad Gita 2.70 →
āpūryamāṇam achala-pratiṣhṭhaṁ samudram āpaḥ praviśhanti yadvat tadvat kāmā yaṁ praviśhanti sarve sa śhāntim āpnoti na kāma-kāmī
He attains peace into whom all desires enter, just as waters enter the ocean which, filled from all sides, remains unmoved; but not the man who is full of desires.

What does the Bhagavad Gita say about jealousy?
Krishna names freedom from envy (anasuya) among the qualities of the dear devotee (12.13). Jealousy lives off the false sense that another's gain takes from you — a sense that softens when you see the one Self in all.
Which Gita verses help with jealousy?
Gita 12.13 (no envy, friendly to all), 4.22 (the wise are content, free from envy), 18.71 (the trusting, non-envious listener attains good worlds), 6.32 (sees the same Self in all), and 16.18–19 (envy is a demonic trait) point the way.
How do I overcome jealousy using the Gita?
When envy rises, silently wish the person well — even if the words feel hollow. Repeated honestly, the wish loosens the grip; the same Self in them is the same Self in you.
