Gita Verses on Self-Love and Self-Worth

True self-love is not vanity — it is the recognition of the divine within you. The Gita teaches that the Self is eternal, indestructible, and worthy of the deepest reverence and care.

uddhared ātmanātmānaṁ nātmānam avasādayet ātmaiva hy ātmano bandhur ātmaiva ripur ātmanaḥ

Let a person lift himself by his own self; let him not degrade himself. For the self alone is the friend of the self, and the self alone is its enemy.

avināśhi tu tadviddhi yena sarvam idaṁ tatam vināśham avyayasyāsya na kaśhchit kartum arhati

Know that to be indestructible, by which all this is pervaded. No one can cause the destruction of that, the Imperishable.

amānitvam adambhitvam ahinsā kṣhāntir ārjavam āchāryopāsanaṁ śhauchaṁ sthairyam ātma-vinigrahaḥ

Humility, unpretentiousness, non-injury, forgiveness, uprightness, service to the teacher, purity, steadfastness, and self-control.

sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja ahaṁ tvā sarva-pāpebhyo mokṣayiṣyāmi mā śucaḥ

Abandoning all duties, take refuge in me alone. I shall liberate you from all sins; do not grieve.
